Is the Best Heel Height for Your Wedding Day Really 2.5 Inches?*

Updated: Oct 9, 2020

If your bridal seamstress has asked for the height of your wedding shoes but you haven't even considered shoes, girl don't panic, you've come to the right place. Continue reading to find out what heel height is most likely to work for your special day.

A quick Google search will tell you the best heel height for your wedding day is 2.5 inches (or a little over 6cm), but like you we wonder if that's really the right size for all of us. Does one size really fit all? We think heel height is purely a personal preference based not just on what you're used to, but also the height of you and your fiancé.

The most common heel heights (demonstrated in their most complimentary styles) are:

1 - 2.5 inches

This heel height (often seen on block and kitten heels) is ideal for tall brides and brides not very confident walking in heels.

Styling tip: Kitten heels compliment vintage-inspired looks.

3 - 4.5 inches

The most classic height of heel heights, and arguably the safest choice for brides.

5 + inches

Heels with a 5 inch heel and above are only recommended for brides who regularly wear heels of this height. For short brides looking to add a lot of height on their wedding day, consider a platform to lessen the pressure.

If you plan on dancing the night away, you'll want to be comfortable on your feet. As you can imagine, the lower the heel the comfier you'll be. If you have your heart set on a stiletto heel for walking down the aisle in, you might consider a change of shoes for your reception... I've seen brides switch into the prettiest pumps and bridal flip flops! Indulge in some of our current favourite styles below.

Styling tip: Consider the hem line of your dress if you decide to switch into flats.

Another factor to consider when deciding on the perfect heel height for your wedding day is the terrain you'll be walking on. Will you be on a soft surface like sand or grass, or a hard wooden floor? If it's the former, a low heel (2.5 inches and smaller) is likely to work best.

Something we mentioned at the start of this guide is the height of you and your fiancé. It's truly up to you if this matters or not but it is something that might play into the heel height you wear on your big day.

We hope we've pointed you in the right direction with this guide. Please let us know if you think we've missed anything, and would like some further information.

We know the perfect shoes will come to you when you need them most so try not to panic.

Before you go, be sure to enjoy this note from my fiancé, Lukas:

If your partner is significantly taller than you and you do not care much about dancing and more about the looks, then be brave and unleash your inner bad bitch by wearing the highest heels possible. After all, the pain it'll cause your feet will be worth it for those photographs and to make that bitch in the crowd jealous, you know the one that wanted to sleep with your husband to be.
